According to the latest data, changes are occurring in U.S. visa appointment times. As of 18.02.2025, the U.S. visa renewal without an appointment period has been reduced from 48 months to 12 months. With this new rule, we believe that if there are no further adjustments regarding appointments, the dates will be pushed further out.

As of 31.05.2025, the U.S. appointment system has completely changed. Appointments are now made through ustraveldocs. With the new system, waiting times for appointments have increased. The right to change the appointment date, which was previously 20 times, has been reduced to 3.

The decreasing duration in January began to extend again in February. Although there were appointments below average in Ankara in March, recent appointments are very rarely opened. As of June 2025, we started to obtain new appointments through ustraveldocs. When the system page is refreshed, if you log in consecutively, you are immediately blocked for a long time, making it quite difficult to check applications. As of July 2025, we have adapted to the new system and continue to support you with good news in the U.S. visa processes. By applying early, you can avoid delays.

How to Obtain a U.S. Visa?

There are four main steps for applying for a U.S. visa.

1. Fill out the online information form (DS-160),
2. Make an appointment, 
3. Prepare the documents,
4. Attend the appointment.

To answer the question how to obtain a U.S. visa? for the B1/B2 tourist business visa category, we can respond with the following points.

• First, the first step should be to get an appointment as soon as possible. Take your passport and fill out the first page of the DS-160 form with your passport information correctly and save it.
• Your Application ID number will be generated as soon as you enter the DS-160 form into the system, which you can find in the upper right corner of the screen. Be sure to note down your Application ID number. We will need this number to complete the DS-160 form after your appointment and to obtain your appointment.
• After filling out the DS-160 form, you should obtain your first appointment date through the U.S. appointment link, even if it gives you a distant date. The system may provide a later date due to high volume, don’t worry, you can write to us for early U.S. appointments.
• You can change your U.S. visa appointment a maximum of 5 times. You cannot make changes within the last 24 hours before your U.S. visa interview.
• After you have made your appointment, prepare your documents as the date approaches and fill out the DS-160 form with updated information and save it. Once approved, you may not be able to edit it again. After the approval stage, the system will allow you to download the form with the information you filled out. Be sure to download it to remember your answers. Save it to your computer to print the approval page.
• If your passport number changes, you may need to fill out the form again. The most recently filled DS-160 form will be valid.
• It is important to specify the address where you will receive your passport correctly. If you will not be at home, you can request that the passport be delivered to the PTT branch. You can collect your passport from the PTT branch with your Turkish ID. You will need to pay an additional fee for the delivery of your passport to your home after the visa is stamped or for delivery from a specific PTT branch you choose.
• On the appointment day, after giving your fingerprints, you will be waiting for the interview. The consular officer conducting the interview may ask you about your language preference. If they ask questions directly in English, calmly state that you would like to speak in Turkish.
• On the appointment day, we recommend that you arrive at the venue with your documents about 2 hours before your appointment time.

U.S. Visa Renewal Application

• If you meet the conditions, you can apply for U.S. visa renewal with an interview waiver. If you fill out the DS-160 form, you can prepare and send your documents according to the necessary instructions. After the research, your passport will be sent by the consulate to the PTT branch or your address you specified after your visa is stamped. To not miss the chance of U.S. visa renewal, you should ensure that no more than 12 months have passed since the expiration date of your U.S. visa.
• In the U.S. visa renewal process, it may take up to 6 weeks for your documents to be requested after your initial application. After submitting your documents, the processing continues for an average of 4 weeks. Be sure to pay attention to timing when making your travel plans.

How to Obtain a U.S. Visa for Children Under 14 Years Old?

Children under 14 years old do not need to attend the appointment for U.S. visa applications made as a family. As a different scenario, if one of the parents has a valid U.S. tourist visa, a visa application can be made for the children with an appointment waiver.

In visa applications made with an appointment waiver, the application is submitted by sending the documents to the consulate via PTT, without going to the consulate and waiting in a long appointment queue. Visa applications made this way take an average of 10 weeks.

As of 02.09.2025, the appointment system for U.S. visas for children under 14 is changing. Children will be participating in the interview with an appointment along with their parents.

What Is the Fee?

The consular fee for a U.S. tourist visa for children is 185 USD. Generally, there is no discount for children in U.S. visa applications. 

What Are the Types of U.S. Visas?

U.S. visas are divided into two main groups: non-immigrant and immigrant visa applications. Each of these two groups has over 140 different visa types available for application. These visas are named according to letters and numbers such as B1, E2, J1.

U.S. B1/B2 Tourist Business Visa

For planned visits to America shorter than six months, you can obtain a U.S. tourist visa. It can be used for vacation, visiting friends, medical treatment, social events, music or sports events, and educational courses. In other words, the U.S. tourist visa is a short-term visa type. The most applications from Turkey are for the U.S. tourist visa.

Turkish citizens are generally granted a 10-year multiple-entry visa. Individuals entering the U.S. can stay for a maximum of 180 days (6 months) per year. The U.S. tourist visa should only be used for tourism and non-profit business purposes such as visiting fairs, not for education, work, shipping, or media jobs.

U.S. Work Visa

To be able to work in America, it is necessary to obtain a U.S. work visa. The work visa is categorized into two different categories: non-immigrant and immigrant visas.

Individuals with a job certification approved by the U.S. Department of Labor must fill out the I-140 form. This way, you can apply for a U.S. work visa with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

If you want to work in America, you can obtain a temporary worker/employee status by applying for the U.S. temporary work visa under the non-immigrant visa category. The U.S. temporary work visas are as follows;
