Antalya is best known for its resorts, but the city itself, with its historic centre, two long beaches and an airport close by, is a good base too. This guide covers Antalya city. Resort areas such as Belek, Kemer and Side lie outside the city centre.
Areas of Antalya
- Kaleiçi: The walled old town, Hadrian’s Gate and the old harbour. Boutique hotels and guesthouses in restored mansions.
- Konyaaltı: The long pebble beach and seafront park to the west, with city hotels within walking distance of the sea.
- Lara: The sandy beach and large resorts to the east, closer to the airport.
- City centre (Muratpaşa): The bazaar, shopping streets and business hotels, with easy public transport.
Getting in from the airport
- Antalya Airport (AYT): Havaş and city buses, hotel transfers and taxis run to the city centre.
- Getting around: Trams and buses connect the centre, Kaleiçi and the seafront.
What to check when choosing a hotel
- Board type: Most city hotels offer bed and breakfast; all-inclusive is mainly found at the Lara resorts. Check the board type before booking.
- Distance to the beach: Most hotels in the centre and Kaleiçi are not on the beach; check how you get to the sea.
- Driving in Kaleiçi: Parking is limited in the narrow streets; ask whether the hotel has parking.
- Season: The swimming season runs from spring to autumn; July and August are very hot, so check for air conditioning.
