Where to Stay in Dubai: Areas and Top-Rated Hotels

Dubai’s areas are far apart and each offers a different trip: skyscrapers and malls, beach resorts, or the souks of old Dubai. This guide covers the areas, getting in from the airport, and what to check when choosing a hotel. A list of top-rated hotels follows at the end.

Areas of Dubai

Downtown Dubai: Around the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain. A central base for a first stay.
Business Bay: Right next to Downtown, with business hotels and a canal-side promenade.
Dubai Marina and JBR: The marina, the beachfront walk and the beach. Lively in the evening.
Palm Jumeirah: Resorts on the man-made island; most have their own beach.
Deira and Bur Dubai: Both banks of Dubai Creek, with the gold and spice souks. Old-Dubai atmosphere and usually lower prices.
Al Garhoud: Close to the airport; practical for short stays and early flights.

Getting in from the airport

Dubai International (DXB): The Dubai Metro Red Line runs from stations at Terminals 1 and 3 towards Downtown and the Marina. Taxis are widely used.
Getting around: The Red Line reaches Dubai Marina; the Dubai Tram serves the Marina and JBR. Use a Nol card on the metro and buses.
Al Maktoum (DWC): Some flights land here; it is far from the centre, so plan your transfer time.

What to check when choosing a hotel

Tourism Dirham: Dubai charges a per-room, per-night tourism fee, usually paid at the hotel. The amount depends on the hotel category; check whether it is included.
Beach access: Not every hotel near the sea has its own beach. Check whether it is a private beach or a walk to a public one.
Season: June to September is very hot; November to March is better for time outdoors.
Distance to the metro: Areas are far apart. A hotel within walking distance of a metro station cuts taxi costs.
