Where to Stay in Tbilisi: Areas and Top-Rated Hotels
Where to stay in Tbilisi? Old Tbilisi, Sololaki, Rustaveli and Vake; getting in from the airport, choosing a hotel, and top-rated hotels.

Tbilisi is a popular short-break city, and because the old town spreads over hills, a hotel’s location changes how you explore. This guide covers the areas, getting in from the airport, and what to check when choosing a hotel. A list of top-rated hotels follows at the end.
Areas of Tbilisi
- Old Tbilisi (Abanotubani and Narikala): The sulphur baths, Narikala Fortress and narrow lanes. The heart of the historic centre.
- Sololaki: Right next to the old town, with boutique hotels and guesthouses among historic buildings.
- Rustaveli Avenue and Freedom Square: Museums, theatres and the city’s main avenue, close to the metro.
- Marjanishvili and Aghmashenebeli Avenue: The pedestrian street on the left bank of the Kura, known for its restaurants.
- Vake and Saburtalo: Mostly residential and quieter; reach the centre by taxi or metro.
Getting in from the airport
- Tbilisi International Airport (TBS): Taxis and city buses run to the centre.
- Getting around: The Tbilisi Metro has two lines with central stops such as Rustaveli, Freedom Square and Marjanishvili. Ride-hailing apps are widely used.
What to check when choosing a hotel
- Hills: Old Tbilisi and Sololaki are hilly, and cars cannot reach some hotels’ doors. Ask how to get there with luggage.
- Entry requirements: Check the current entry rules for your nationality before you travel.
- Currency: Georgia’s currency is the lari (GEL); read the booking conditions for any city tax or extra charges.
- Noise: Hotels in restaurant and bar areas can be noisy at night; side streets are quieter.
