3 days · Berlin
Berlin in 3 days: the Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island and the Wall
Berlin is a big city, so the plan splits it into three areas linked by public transport. Day one is the government quarter: the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag with advance registration, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and Checkpoint Charlie. Day two is the Neues Museum and the bust of Nefertiti on Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, followed by the TV Tower on Alexanderplatz. Day three follows the Cold War: the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße, Prenzlauer Berg, the East Side Gallery and an evening in Kreuzberg. The Neues Museum and the memorial's Information Centre are closed on Mondays, so days one and two should not fall on a Monday. The Pergamonmuseum is closed for refurbishment. Opening times and prices link to official sources with the date they were last checked.

Munich trip plans →

3 days · Munich
Munich in 3 days: Marienplatz, the Pinakothek and Nymphenburg
Munich's old town is a walkable core, so the plan gives day one to it, day two to art and the park and day three to a loop outside the centre. Day one covers the Glockenspiel and the 1638 Marian Column on Marienplatz, the tower of St Peter's, the 22,000-square-metre Viktualienmarkt, the Gothic Frauenkirche and the Residenz, the Wittelsbachs' city palace. Day two is the Alte Pinakothek in the Kunstareal and the 375-hectare English Garden. Day three takes the tram to Nymphenburg Palace, then the Deutsches Museum. The Viktualienmarkt closes on Sundays and the Pinakothek museums on Mondays, so keep day one off a Sunday and day two off a Monday. Hours and fees link to the official source with the date we last checked them.
