London in 4 days: Westminster, the Thames, museums and parks
The plan splits London into four geographic clusters. Day one is Westminster: Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Elizabeth Tower, the Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace by way of St James's Park, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, with Covent Garden and Soho in the evening. Day two follows the Thames: St Paul's Cathedral in the morning, across the Millennium Bridge to Tate Modern, Borough Market at lunch, then Tower Bridge and the Tower of London in the afternoon. Day three is the British Museum in Bloomsbury and the West End. Day four is the Natural History Museum, the V&A and Hyde Park in South Kensington, or you can swap it for Greenwich. Most of the plan is indoors, so it suits rainy days, and many museums have free general admission. City transport runs on a contactless card or phone with a daily cap. Put day one on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday for the Changing the Guard, and avoid a Monday for day two because Borough Market is closed.

Budget-friendly London: 4 days of free museums, the City and Greenwich
A four-day plan that reads London through free museums, free services and a viewing floor with free tickets rather than its big ticketed sights: the Science Museum and Tate Britain, Sky Garden and Guildhall in the City, Soane and the Wallace in Marylebone, and Docklands and Greenwich on the last day. Travel is on foot and by TfL public transport only. Plan day one for any day but Wednesday and day three between Wednesday and Sunday.
